Star Fall From the Sky

IRIS ROSE (Writer, Director, Designer)

Between 1981 and 1994, Iris Rose wrote, directed, and performed more than twenty original works, alone or in collaboration with the performance group Watchface.  The subjects of these pieces ranged from serial killers to the history of Woolworth’s, from famous aviators to housewives in 1962.  Her shows were seen in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington D.C., and Houston, where Of Little Women was the first work of performance art presented at the Alley Theatre.  She has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts, as well as grants from the Jerome Foundation and Art Matters.  ArtforumCamden: “This is important work.”  In 1990, Iris was awarded Best Dramatic Radio Program from American Women in Radio and Television for her only piece for radio, Society of Mothers, about the experience of becoming a new mother. In 1992, she received a Masters in Performance Studies from NYU.  She devoted most of the years from 1995 to 2007 to parenting and writing, but returned to directing with the creation of Theater of the Grasshopper in 2008.

HUGH HALES-TOOKE (Composer, Lyricist, First Musician, Woodcutter)

Hugh earned an MFA in painting at Syracuse University, but chose photography as a career.  His work has appeared in Details, G.Q., and Vanity Fair, among many other publications.  His photos have also appeared in the show catalog for the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Next Wave Festival and on album covers including Laura Cantrell's When The Roses Bloom Again and the Grammy-nominated cover for Jewel's Pieces of You.  He has played guitar with Marc Farre, live and on his CD Secret Symphony and has studied at Mannes College The New School for Music.  Hugh has written articles on Syd Barret, Annie Leibovitz, Robert Johnson, Tom Stoppard and The Beatles for the arts magazine Modern Mask and recently completed a novel entitled Fat Little Telescope.  His blog containing essays on music can be found at www.hughhales-tooke.blogspot.com.
